All notable changes to HTML 2 Articles will be documented in this file.
v5.1.0 2026-10-07
New Import Log, Dashboard & Support Screen
New Features
- A new import log: Each uploaded file now has one row showing whether it imported, the article it became, its category and how long it took. Click "steps" to see exactly what happened. Filter by file, article, status, category or time, copy the log as text for a support request, download it as CSV, remove selected entries or clear it all.
- Dashboard: The first screen now shows how many files you've imported, how many in the last 24 hours, and how many succeeded, had notes or failed. Each number opens the matching part of the log.
- Support screen: Contact details, links to the documentation and this changelog, and your system details (versions, PHP settings) with a button to copy them into a support request.
- Progress window while importing: Files are now imported one at a time, with a window showing "Importing file 3 of 12" and the file name. It stays open until the batch is done, so the page can't be left by accident halfway through, and lists any failures at the end.
- Help under each setting: The Toggle Inline Help button in the wizard shows each setting's explanation underneath it.
- Links screen filters: Filter by file name, alias, article or category, update all links in one click, and shift-click to tick a range of rows.
- 17 languages: HTML 2 Articles now comes in English, Dutch, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Polish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Turkish, Greek, Czech, Swedish and Norwegian (Bokmål and Nynorsk).
Changes
- Updating links is more careful: Only link addresses such as href="/about.html" are changed, never the same words in your page text, and you're told how many articles were updated.
- Failed uploads are logged: Files that are refused, such as the wrong file type, now appear in the import log with the reason.
- Yes/No settings are switches: Green for Yes and red for No, so you can see each setting at a glance.
- Readable in dark mode: The wizard's panels used a fixed light background that made text hard to read in Joomla's dark admin theme.
- Settings stay put: Saving the wizard no longer clears the support settings under Options, and saving Options no longer clears the wizard settings.
- New install screen: After installing or updating you get buttons to open HTML 2 Articles, start importing or get support.
v5.0.1 2026-10-07
Toolbar Buttons Fixed & Safer File Handling
Bug Fixes
- Save Settings, Update selected links and Clear log work again: In 5.0.0 these toolbar buttons went back to the welcome screen without doing anything, so wizard settings couldn't be changed. They now save, update and clear as they should.
- Images from old sites with a port number are found: If your old site's address included a port, such as http://oldsite.com:8080/, images and documents linked with relative addresses were looked for without the port and never imported. The port is now kept.
Security
- Only images are copied into your images folder: When importing images from your old site, only jpg, jpeg, png, gif, webp, avif, bmp, ico and tif files are saved. Other files linked as images are skipped and noted in the log.
- Safe file names: Imported image and document names are cleaned before saving, so a link on an imported page can't place a file outside the folder you chose.
- Script files are never saved as documents: File types a web server could run (such as php, phtml, cgi, asp, jsp, html, svg and js) are never copied, even if they're in your document extensions list.
- Image and document folders must be inside your site: The folder settings now only accept a folder inside your Joomla site, such as images/.
- Permission checks: Importing now needs permission to create articles, updating links needs permission to edit articles, saving settings needs the Options permission, and clearing the log needs the new Delete permission.
v5.0.0 2026-10-07
Native Joomla 5 & Joomla 6 Version
New Features
- Runs natively on Joomla 5 and Joomla 6: HTML 2 Articles no longer needs Joomla's "Behaviour - Backward Compatibility" plugin. It was rebuilt on Joomla's current framework and tested on Joomla 5.4 and Joomla 6.1 with the Backward Compatibility plugin switched off.
- New drag-and-drop uploader: Drop your HTML files onto the Upload tab, or click Select files. Each file shows its own progress bar and an Imported or error status, so you can see at a glance which pages came in.
Bug Fixes
- Imported articles now get the right workflow stage: Every article is now placed in the default workflow stage of the category you import into. Before, it was given the highest-numbered stage on the whole site, which could be the wrong one on sites that use custom workflows.
- Articles are saved the way Joomla saves them: Imports now go through Joomla's own article system, and articles are no longer saved with 0000-00-00 dates, which strict database servers reject.
- File extensions in capitals are accepted: Files named page.HTML or page.HTM were refused as the wrong file type. They now import like any other HTML file.
- No more backslashes in titles: A file name with an apostrophe, such as joanna's-page.html, produced a title with a backslash in it. Titles now come through as written.
- Clear message when a folder can't be created: If the images or documents folder doesn't exist and can't be created, the upload now shows a clear error for that file. Before, on PHP 8 the upload crashed with a server error.
- Server warnings no longer break uploads: On servers that display PHP warnings, a warning printed during an import could make a successful upload show as failed. Those warnings are now kept out of the uploader.
Changes
- Requires Joomla 5 or 6: Version 5.0.0 installs on Joomla 5.0 or later and needs PHP 8.1 or later. The installer explains this if your site doesn't meet it.
- Upgrading from 3.x keeps your settings: Install 5.0.0 over your existing copy. Your wizard settings, import log and link records are kept, and files from the old version are removed.
- No more jQuery: The wizard, uploader and log screens no longer load jQuery.
